Learning to be dependent like Daniel:
Daniel’s refusal to eat food from the king’s table showed Daniel’s dependency on God! He had FAITH that his God was his provider. And God proved Daniel to be right when after being tested for 10 days Daniel and his friends were healthier and more robust than the other servants.
The king was offering his delicacies not because he was generous and liked his servants, he was offering his delicacies as bait to lure the servants into believing that only the king could provide for them the things that they needed. This would insure their dependency and loyalty to the king.
Because Daniel was determined from the beginning to put his dependency and loyalty on God, he was favored in a way that was outside of the king’s ability. Because of this, not only did the current king look on favor with Daniel, but rulers after him also favored Daniel. He did not have to keep trying to win favor from man to man. Because his loyalty was in the God who rules above men, all favor was on Daniel. And God was able to use Daniel as an instrument for his kingdom.
With so much chaos and confusion happening in the world today, where is your trust? Who holds your loyalty and dependency? Are you looking to a Mayor to dictate orders or mandates to protect you? Are you depending on a governor to incite rules and regulations to keep you safe? Are you dependent on a government to help keep food on your table? Or are you waiting for someone to stand up and prove truth that you have been waiting to hear? Are you waiting for a “man” to come along and turn the tides of this chaos into whatever victorious outcome you are looking for?
Like Daniel we have to come to the realization that no matter what man sits on a seat of power and control over any situation, we will remain loyal and fully dependent on the God above them. We have to be so dependent on God that we are unbothered by who or what is currently in control of a situation. We have to be so dependent on God that we sleep with peace, completely free of fear, worry, or concern; for we know our God is favoring us. We have to be so dependent on God that we will never look to any man to be our savior. We will never put all of our trust or loyalty into any man, no matter how great they sound. From whoever sits in the white house, to whoever is speaking out the loudest; we will be steadfast in our full trust and dependency on the one true God and our savior Jesus Christ. We do not need to have all of the answers or know the exact outcome or explanation. We need only trust in the God who created us, the one who has nothing but good intentions in store for us.
